Application for Open Air Burning Permit

 

Open Air Burning is regulated by Division B, Sentence 2.4.4.4. (1) of the Ontario Fire Code- O. Reg. 213/07 and by Municipality of Leamington By-law 34-10. Applicants must comply with these and all other applicable laws when performing Open Air Burning.

Fees: $20

Payment: Online payment is now available. Once you have submitted your form, you can process your payment immediately with a VISA or MasterCard. Someone from the Leamington Fire Services, will be in contact with you regarding your application. Please note that your application will not be approved until you are contacted by a member of the Fire department.

Please review the following Open Air Burning guidelines:

  • You must review and abide by Open Air Burning Bylaw 34-10.
  • Do not burn garbage, treated or painted lumber/construction material or materials made/or containing rubber, plastic, tar, or other hazardous materials, yard waste (leaves, grass clippings etc.).
  • Fires must be under constant supervision and controlled at all times.
  • Do not burn on days where smoke will blow across roadways and hamper driving visibility.
  • Always have proper extinguishment tools on site (hose, fire extinguisher, water wagon, heavy equipment etc.).
  • If the Chief Fire Official, Officer or a member of the fire department deems a fire to be in contravention of the burning bylaw, the fire shall be extinguished.
  • The Chief Fire Official, or designate has the right to revoke an issued permit upon receipt of any complaint or violation of any part of Open Air Burning Bylaw 34-10.
  • The current Ministry of Transportation rate charged shall be a minimum of $543.03 per fire apparatus for every hour or part thereof that the fire department is on site.
